Plastic Avengers: Shrink-Wrapped Cucumbers

I know your company cares about SUSTAINABILITY. Me too. That's why I'm wondering why you shrink-wrap your cucumbers. Is this really necessary?

I'll let you know what they say.

Actually as anti over packaging as I am shrink wrapping cucumbers is actually overall more 'eco' than unwrapped cucumbers. In terms of energy and resources the cucumber is much more valuable than the plastic. Since consumers are no longer content with seasonal, local produce the time taken for a cucumber to reach the customer increases. The small amount of plastic actually helps preserves the cucumber meaning it lasts much longer and less cucumbers are therefore thrown away! Granted the addition of plastic wrap isn't ideal but until stop demanding products grown on the other side of the world all year round it's more beneficial than without
